West Coast Rail Journeys
|
| Fort William, Scotland |
|
| The town of Fort William, between Ben Nevis and Loch Linnhe, plays host to this holiday featuring two of the world’s most scenic rail journeys. The first is aboard the Jacobite Steam Train that takes you past a list of impressive extremes between Fort William & Mallaig.
It starts near the highest mountain in Britain (Ben Nevis), then passes close by the deepest freshwater loch in Britain (Loch Morar) and
finally arrives next to the deepest seawater loch in Europe – Loch Nevis. Before arrival in Mallaig, the train also crosses the world famous 21 arch Glenfinnan viaduct, which has been used in the Harry Potter movies and offers wonderful views down Loch Shiel. The scenery on the Kyle Line is equally impressive as it winds its way from Inverness
through to Kyle of Lochaish on the west. The views from the window are worth the fare alone but no matter where you are along
its 80 miles, historic Scotland is only a few metres away. The terminus at Kyle of Lochais is the crossing point for the Isle of Skye. |
