Slovenia’s fairytale beauty – crystal waters, traditional boats and an iconic island castle.

Lake Bled is a glacier-formed, crystal blue lake, known for its castle and panoramic views and close to Slovenia’s culture-packed capital, Ljubljana. Lakeside walks are the best way to see Bled Castle, with its beautiful mountain backdrop. The leisurely 2-hour walk around the lake is gentle and scenic, and there are loads of lakeside cafés to stop at along the way for a coffee and slice of delicious kremsnita cake. Not to mention the quiet lakeside spots, ideal for a spot of sunbathing and a paddle.

You're likely to see a fair few boats on Lake Bled, but none of them with an engine. Quite simply, motor boats have been banned. Instead, traditional Pletna boats, handed down through generations, have the run of the lake and take people across to the island church. Weddings are a regular occurrence at the iconic Church of Maria of the Lake and grooms traditionally carry their bride up the 99 steps to the church before ringing the wishing bell for good luck.

Our Itinerary

Thursday We collect you from home to join your coach to travel to Folkestone for the Eurotunnel crossing to France. The journey continues through France to Saarbrücken, Germany and our overnight stop. Dinner on arrival.

Friday This afternoon, we catch the first glimpse of our stunning resort as we arrive in Lake Bled. On arrival at the Park Hotel, our luggage is taken to our room and we have time to settle in prior to dinner.

Saturday We head inland today to the breathtaking Postojna Caves; here we have included admission to the cave system which is reputedly one of the largest in Europe. A specially developed train takes you into the 20km of caves, with fascinating sights of stalactites stalagmites. Lunch is included at the restaurant before we return to our hotel via a photo stop at the Medieval Predjama Castle perched ominously at the top of a cliff. Please note: If you wish to complete the full tour of the caves this will involve a certain amount of walking.

Sunday This morning we make our way to the Slovenian capital of Ljubljana. This is a picturesque city boasting a wealth of attractions such as Tivoli Park, The Dragon Bridge and Ljubljana Castle. This afternoon we follow in the footsteps of HM The Queen as we visit the oldest European stud farm, Lipica, for a guided tour. Here we see how the famous Lippizan stallions are reared and trained.

Monday A full day at leisure today to relax and enjoy the stunning scenery. You may wish to hop on a Plentna boat and take a trip across the lake to the island. This boat conducted by one rower with two oars is only known on Lake Bled.
