Breathtaking beauty, views as far as the eye can see and quaint little market towns –  the Peak District is the perfect getaway! Take a step back in time as you ride on wonderfully restored vintage trams from all over the world, experience the Derbyshire’s longest heritage railway and enjoy an out of hours visit to explore a magnificent neo-classical mansion with beautiful landscaped parkland.

Our Itinerary

Thursday We make our way to our hotel in Derbyshire arriving in time to enjoy a welcome drink and to settle in before dinner.

Friday Today we spend the day at Crich Tramway Village, located in the heart of Derbyshire on the edge of the Peak District National Park. Beautifully restored trams run along cobbled streets, past the former Derbyshire Assembly rooms and under the Bowes-Lyon Bridge before climbing a mile and a half of track that provides breath-taking views of the surrounding countryside and Derwent Valley. Perhaps stop for a drink at The Red Lion Pub and Tearooms, visit the fascinating Workshop Viewing Gallery or wander around the period shops on the authentic village street.

Saturday The Peak District National Park is renowned for its beautiful scenery and quaint towns, and we will take in some of the delightful sights that have inspired authors and artists alike. The tour will take in Chatsworth Park, past the stunning home of the Duke & Duchess of Devonshire and onto the quaint village of Baslow. From here we will cross the moors to Hathersage and its historical associations to Robin Hood and the Eyre family. The coach will continue to Hope Valley and then Castleton - home of Blue John Cavern and a great spot for a coffee break. Finally enjoy the picturesque ancient market town of Bakewell, situated on the River Wye in the heart of the Peak District. The town has a long and fascinating history and is famous all over the world for its Bakewell puddings, so be sure to visit the original Bakewell Pudding Shop and perhaps try one for yourself!

Sunday We take a trip back in time with a visit to magnificent Kedleston Hall. Set in historic parkland, this spectacular neo-classical mansion was designed specifically for lavish entertaining. We enjoy a private 90-minute guided tour of the hall before it is opened to the general public, after which you can explore the wonderful grounds designed by the renowned architect Robert Adam. This afternoon, we take a scenic journey via Carsington Water to Wirksworth, known as the Gem of the Peaks. This historic market town is a fascinating place to explore, with its narrow streets and maze of interesting alleyways where little has changed over the last 150 years. We stop at Wirksworth Station to enjoy an afternoon tea in a wonderful converted Pullman carriage, before we relive nostalgic rail travel as we join The Ecclesbourne Valley Railway for a journey through one of Derbyshire's loveliest and unspoilt valleys to Duffield.

Monday After breakfast, we begin our homeward journey with suitable comfort stops on the way.
