Standing on the shores of Mount’s Bay, overlooked by St.Michael’s Mount, Penzance is the ideal base from which to tour the beautiful western Cornwall. Stroll along the magnificent promenade and enjoy the mix of galleries, restaurants, shops, cafes and inns; the town is a walkers paradise and starting point for several coastal footpaths and moorland trails whilst it is also known as the gateway to the Scilly Isles.
Monday We collect you from home to join your tour coach and travel to Penzance arriving late afternoon at the Queen’s Hotel for a four night stay with dinner, bed and breakfast.
Tuesday A day at leisure in Penzance. The ancient market town of Penzance is the Capital of the far west of Cornwall and is set in beautiful Mounts Bay - a body of water dominated by the grandeur of St. Michael's Mount.
Wednesday After breakfast, we now head for the most westerly part of the UK Mainland – to Land’s End! Admire the spectacular scenery and cliff views to Longships and Wolf Rock lighthouses and the Isles of Scilly, 28 miles to the west. We have time to enjoy the attractions and the spectacular views.
Thursday This morning we travel to St Ives where you may wish to visit the Barbara Hepworth Museum & Sculpture Garden (entrance not included), where you can view a fabulous collection of stone, bronze and wooden sculptures, paintings, drawings and archive material from 1949 to 1975. The garden itself was laid out by Barbara Hepworth: a growing work of art! There are plenty of cafes and restaurants which offer spectacular views across the old town and Porthmeor Beach. (Please note St. Ives centre is not accessible by coach but can be accessed from the coach park by walking or a short shuttle bus ride for a fee payable locally).You will have time to explore this beautiful town before we make our way back to the hotel for dinner.
Friday We depart after breakfast and travel to Cornwall’s capital city, Truro. You will have some free time to explore this city and have some lunch. You may wish to visit Truro Cathedral, a fine example of Victorian gothic revival architecture. The original Victorian organ in Truro Cathedral is considered to be one of the finest instruments in the country and the Cathedral itself is only one of three in the United Kingdom to have been built with three spires. We then continue our journey home arriving back in the local area early evening.
Queen's Hotel, Penzance
The Queens is a family run hotel which has been welcoming visitors to the far west of Cornwall since 1862. It offers a high level of comfort and style but also reflects its heritage with impressive paintings and architecture. Situated on the promenade in Penzance, it is perfectly positioned to enjoy a stroll and admire the striking views across the sea to St Michael's Mount and the Lizard Peninsula. The 70 tastefully decorated bedrooms are accessible by lift, equipped with hairdryer, TV and tea/coffee making facilities. Please note some rooms are accessed by a few steps.
