Vlad the Impaler, the 15th Century Prince of Wallachia, was Bram Stoker’s inspiration for his book “Dracula”, one of the most famous books of all time. This tale of Vampires transformed Romania overnight into a land full of mystique and mystery! Experience a journey through Transylvania, located in the center of modern-day Romania and discover beautiful countryside and historic buildings! Our tour also takes in the city of Budapest demonstrating European diversity to the full. Travel through this undiscovered part of Europe, where you will find natural beauty and tales and witches, vampires and werewolves sitting happily alongside each other.

Day 1: Friday, We collect you from home and join your tour coach travelling to Folkestone for our crossing to Calais continuing our journey to our overnight hotel in the Cologne region.

Day 2: Saturday,  Departure Cologne region and overnight Linz

Day 3: Sunday,  Departure Linz & arrival Budapest: Arrive in Budapest, for meet and greet by your Tour Guide and enjoy dinner in the hotel.

Day 4: Monday, Timisoara “Little Vienna”
Right after breakfast you will continue your adventure in Eastern Europe as we travel on to beautiful Timisoara. Check in to your hotel and relax. TimiÈ™oara has many aliases including Little Vienna, and lies in the far west of Romania close to the borders of Hungary and Serbia. It is an important hub of economic development, and a cultural melting pot. In the afternoon a walking tour within the old city walls, will inform you about the main historical events and architectural styles dominating TimiÈ™oara´s three main squares, Victory, Liberty and Union Squares. After some free time enjoy dinner at a local tavern in the city.

Day 5: Tuesday, Hunedoara - Sibiu
After breakfast a scenic drive takes you through picturesque countryside to the breathtaking mountains. Stop in Hunedoara to discover the Hunyadi Castle. Boasting an impressive drawbridge, a huge medieval ballroom, a beautiful interior courtyard and exceptional defensive structure, the castle is said to have been the place where Vlad the Impaler was imprisoned for a while. Tales of ghostly hauntings remain to this day. After the tour we head on to Sibiu. After check in at your hotel join your Tour Guide for a walk through this amazing city! Listed by Forbes in top 10 of the most idyllic places to live in the whole world, Sibiu was settled by Germans colonists in the 12th century and maintains its wonderful medieval atmosphere to this day. The walk starts at the Grand Square where you will find the Catholic Church, City Hall and the Brukenthal Palace, and continues with Liar’s Bridge, the Small Square and Huet Square. Dinner will take place at a local restaurant with Rumanian Specialties!

Day 6: Wednesday, Sibiu - Bran – Brasov
After breakfast you will have some time for a stroll through Sibiu and to say goodbye to this little gem! Continue for a well deserved break at the Brukenthal Palace in Avrig and enjoy coffee and buscuits. Today´s highlight is a visit to Count Dracula’s famous castle in Bran. Built in the 14th century, the castle now houses a museum dedicated to Queen Marie of Romania. Enjoy the panoramic view from its rooftop looking into Transylvania and hear the truth about Dracula. Transfer to Brasov. Dinner at the hotel.

Day 7: Thursday, Brasov –Sighisoara – Cluj Napoca
Enjoy a walking tour of Brasov, also called the ’Crown of Transylvania”. Discover the beautiful colourful old town with the Council Square and the Black Church, the largest gothic church between Vienna and Istanbul. Transfer to Sighisoara, the birth place of Count Dracula. Sighisoara was settled by Germans in the 13th century and it is one of only a few medieval fortresses, still occupied today, in the world. It enjoys UNESCO listing as well. A walking tour will show you the Clock Tower and the birth house of Dracula’s vampire and you will visit the Church on the Hill. A scenic drive to Cluj Napoca then follows. Dinner will be at the hotel.

Day 8: Friday, Cluj Napoca – Debrecen - Budapest
Enjoy a walking tour this morning in the Old Town of Cluj Napoca and discover its landmark, Michael’s Church, built in the 14th century in a gothic style. See also the statue of Matthias Corvinus, King of Hungary. Continue to Debrecen, the second largest city in Hungary. Located some 135 miles east of the capital, and boasting a rich 600 year history, Debrecen is a centre of culture and science and is home to a rich variety of festivals as well as a place at the heart of a flourishing spa culture. Enjoy your first Hungarian lunch before continuing West to Budapest. Check in to your hotel and enjoy dinner.

Day 9: Saturday, Budapest city tour and farewell evening
Your City Guide will show you all the secrets of this impressive city, split into two by the River Danube. Buda, lying in the hills is home to the impressive Fishermen’s Bastion (entrance included), the “Citadel” and the Heroes’ Square. The flatter Pest has many cobbled streets and shopping lanes, the famous Opera House and the Parliament. You will have some free time this afternoon to wander around this wonderful city. For your farewell evening, we have arranged a traditional Hungarian Czardas Folklore Evening including traditional dinner and Gypsy music.

Day 10: Sunday, Departure & Overnight in Regensburg region

Day 11: Monday, Departure Regensburg & Overnight in Aachen region

Day 12: Tuesday, Departure Aachen & Arrival in UK. On arrival into Wiltshire your taxi will be waiting to return you to your home.
