The Almabtrieb is one of the main highlights of the Tyrolean festival calendar. This is when the cows come back down to the valleys from the high mountain pastures, in all their finery. On this tour you will also visit many other Tyrolean highlights including the open air Farmhouse Museum and the state capital of Innsbruck.

Our Itinerary

Wednesday We collect you from home to join your tour coach and travel to Folkestone for our Eurotunnel crossing to Calais and onward journey through France and into Germany and check into your hotel for your overnight stay. Dinner on arrival.

Thursday We depart after breakfast and continue our journey through Germany and into Austria to check in to the Ferienhotel Fuchs, Söll and enjoy a welcome drink before dinner.

Friday We begin the day with a visit to Rattenberg, the oldest and smallest town in the Tyrol, known as the Tyrolean home of glass and crystal. Visit one of the showrooms and perhaps see the artisans at work painting and engraving crystal and glassware. We then continue to the outdoor Tyrolean Farmhouse Museum in Kramsach. This museum, founded in 1974, now features 14 original (restored) Tyrolean farmhouses, the oldest dating back to 1620, and offers a fascinating glimpse into the traditional world of Tyrolean rural life. Return to your hotel and following dinner, enjoy a traditional Tyrolean folklore evening.

Saturday Join today the famous Tyrolean Alm Festival in a village nearby. The festival begins with the “Almabtrieb”, or closing of the mountain pastures. The farmers’ herds, after spending the summer in the high mountain pastures, are decorated with spectacular head-dresses and brought down to the valley for the winter months. Join in the fun and experience this truly festive occasion.

Sunday Innsbruck is the capital of the Tyrol and former seat of the ruling Habsburg family. The city tour will show you the highlights of this alpine city, including the most famous landmark of all, the Golden Roof. Nestled at the foot of the Northern Chain Mountains, this charming city was host to the Winter Olympic Games in 1964 and 1976. Enjoy some free time in the city before continuing to the Tyrolean Schnapps Museum in Pill. Learn how schnapps is distilled and enjoy tasting some of the local firewater.

Monday Enjoy a day at leisure in Söll

Tuesday Today we bid farewell to the beautiful Tyrol and continue to Germany for our overnight stay with dinner.
