Northumbria's Living History

Our base for this tour is the stunning Slaley Hall Hotel, which is ideally located for exploring the historic Northumbria and the beautiful Durham Dales. Our tour features the historic Hadrian’s Wall, Roman Vindolanda Fort and the bustling and beautiful city of Durham.

ITINERARY

Monday - This morning we will collect you from home, bringing you to meet your tour coach as it begins its journey to Northumberland, making suitable comfort stops on route. We will arrive with time to settle in before dinner.

Tuesday - Today we enjoy a full day step on guided tour, which will take us to see through some beautiful Northumbria scenery and along Hadrian’s Wall. Following this we will then visit the Roman Vindolanda Fort and Museum.

Wednesday - We will take a visit to the beautiful city of Durham, where you will have time at leisure to explore this bustling city.

Thursday - We spend today at the excellent Cragside House and Gardens, former home of the famous inventor, Lord Armstrong. In 1878, Cragside was the first house in the world to be lit by hydro-electricity and it is crammed full of ingenious gadgets – most of them still working - as well as an eclectic collection of British art, furniture, ceramics and natural history. Outside the house, one of the largest rock gardens in Europe leads down to the Iron Bridge, which in turn leads to the lovely formal gardens.

(Please note the terrain at Cragside House is uneven with steep footpaths, many of which are unsuitable for wheelchair users)

Friday - This morning we bid farewell to Northumberland and begin our journey back to Wiltshire. Where we will meet your taxi to take you back to your pickup address.
