Based in Bury St Edmunds, this tour is a real treat as we enjoy some of the best the area has to offer. We include Duxford War Museum, a visit to the fascinating National Horse Racing Museum and a guided tour of St Edmundsbury.

OUR ITINERARY

SUNDAY – Today we begin our journey to Suffolk and to the Angel Hotel where we will be staying for the next 4 nights.

MONDAY – Our destination this morning is the Imperial War Museum Duxford, Britain’s best preserved World War II airfield. Its story reflects the landmark achievements made in aviation history and it incorporates a series of museums and exhibitions, including the 1940’s Operations Room, AirSpace (featuring 30 iconic aircraft including Spitfires and Concorde), The American Air Museum, The Battle of Britain Exhibition and Land Warfare to name but a few.

TUESDAY – Today we visit the National Horse Racing Museum in Newmarket. Set in 5 acres of prime real estate the museum tells the story of horseracing from its earliest origins. We can have the chance to meet former racehorses in the home of Retraining Racehorses. After lunch we head to Ely for an afternoon at leisure to explore.

WEDNESDAY – Today we stay in Bury St Edmunds. To get a feel for this historic market town, we begin with a guided tour of St Edmundsbury Cathedral, just a short walk from our hotel – an ancient tunnel actually connects the hotel to the cathedral but has been closed to the public, so it’s overground we must go! Once we have finished our tour we can remain within the consecrated ground and spend some time in the adjacent Abbey Gardens and see the ruins of Bury St Edmunds Abbey, the site of a Benedictine monastery. The rest of the day is free to explore.

THURSDAY – Following a final breakfast we will board our coach and begin our journey home making suitable comfort stops on the route.
